Michelle Abreu
Michelle is currently a second-year student at the Columbia University
School of Law. Previously, she taught global
history at the Dr. Susan S. McKinney High School in Brooklyn, New York.
While at McKinney, she established the Young Women’s
Leadership Group to provide female students with a support
network and opportunities to serve their community. She was also the
Assistant Project Director in the Diaspora Development Projects
Department at Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Michelle holds a B.A. in Government
from Smith College and a M.S. for Teachers from Pace
University. She is originally from the Dominican Republic and is
fluent in Spanish and English.

Annalyn B. Alenton
Annalyn B. Alenton is a Ford Foundation International Fellow from the Philippines currently undertaking her Masters in International Affairs, concentrating in Economic and Political Development (EPD) at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. She has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, working in both rural and urban areas. She has served as Frontline Supervisor of a multi-national company, Del Monte Philippines and as the Provincial Development Officer of an NGO, Management Association of the Philippines-Agribusiness and Countryside Development Foundation prior to joining in the government service in 1999. For 7 years, she worked as a Planning Officer and Regional Coordinator of a major anti-poverty measure-the Community-Based Training for Enterprise Development (CBTED) program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)- Regional Office 10 in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines.

Maulik Baxi
Maulik is a
physician and currently a student of Public Health at Columbia
University. His experience extends into environmental health,
infectious diseases, medical writing and editing, information
technology, development and youth issues as well as health care systems
management and research. Described as ‘Ambassador to the
future’ by Microsoft, Maulik is also one of the pioneer
researchers in Essential Trauma Care Services and architect of a silent
public health awareness revolution among medical students in India.

Jackie Bondanza
Jackie Bondanza is currently a book editor at Barnes & Noble, as well as a freelance writer and editor. With an undergraduate degree in communication, and a Master's degree in journalism and media criticism, Jackie has worked at numerous regional and national publications writing and reporting on a variety of lifestyle, entertainment, and wellness topics. She has worked extensively with the North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) and various homeless newspapers around the world to conduct academic research on homeless media and their progression as a valuable alternative and independent medium. She has also led writing workshops and seminars for homeless journalists and has worked as an activist within the homeless community for the past three years.

Peter Brock
Peter is a student at Skidmore College where he is pursuing a
self-determined major in Economic Development and Human Security.
Peter has helped lead a youth trip in Thailand and worked as a volunteer in southern Thailand in the
wake of the 2005 Tsunami. He speaks Spanish and is currently studying
French.

James Burke
James was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He received a degree in Conservation Biology from the College of Santa Fe. James is an amateur myrmecologist and an aspiring middle-school science teacher. For the past five years he has worked in New York City as an Environmental Consultant with Velocity Consulting. James spent 2007 living in Sierra Leone, where he learned to speak Krio and worked with the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone (CSSL) on several projects, including a chimpanzee program and an extensive survey of "honey hunting" practices in two chiefdoms in northern Sierra Leone.

Eugenio Cano
Eugenio held the post of minister counselor at the Permanent Mission of
the Republic of Nicaragua to the United Nations in New York, NY from
2002 to April 2007. In that position, he was the assigned delegate for the
Economic and Social Affairs Second Committee of the United Nations and
the principal contact for Nicaragua¹s elected memberships to the
Board of Directors of the United Nations International Children¹s
Emergency Fund (UNICEF) 2004-06 and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) 2004-06.
He was previously posted at the Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua in the Republic of
China (Taiwan), Taipei, from August 1998 to August 2002 where he
organized investment and commercial promotion activities among other
diplomatic activities. He is author of Nicaragua: Land of
Opportunities, published in 1999 and its second edition published in
2002. He has also advised major international investors seeking to
invest in Nicaragua in manufacturing and infrastructure projects.
Eugenio earned a Master¹s in Public Policy in 1997 from the
Gerald H. Ford School of Public Policy, University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, where he was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. He holds a B.A. in
Economics and Political Science from Columbia College, Columbia
University in the City of New York.
Though his mother tongue is Spanish, he speaks English fluently; he
also has attained an advanced level of Mandarin Chinese, an
intermediate level of French and basic knowledge of Portuguese.

Frank Cohn
Frank holds his MSW from Columbia University, specializing in International Social Development and Social Enterprise Administration, and in addition to his work with Globalhood, also works part-time as the Associate Director of Bushwick IMPACT, a family resource center in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, he has worked extensively in the field with marginalized youth, women's groups, and communities, including a post as Field Director for an NGO in Central America and with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in Social Policy and Development. In 2005-6 he was the Co-Founder and President of the Columbia University Partnership for International Development (CUPID), an organization with over 1250 current members from across 12 graduate school disciplines. He brings 10 years of managerial and supervisory experience with Community Service and Development programs, and regularly conducts trainings for human service staff on Communication, Stress Management, and Team Building. He has work experience in 12 countries in Asia and the Americas, and speaks fluent French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, and intermediate Hindi.

Anne Delorme
With nearly ten years experience in international and community development and an MBA from McGill University, Anne Delorme has developed a strong expertise in project management. Main accomplishments include the launch and sustainable growth of an environmental NGO, raising 9.5 million dollars for breast cancer research and the management of youth and capacity development programs in 6 countries, benefiting 45 community organizations. Ms. Delorme has field and management experience with programs in youth leadership, entrepreneurship, women's rights and access to basic services (agriculture, water and health promotion). A talented facilitator, writer and researcher, she is fluent in French, English and Spanish.

James Dreiss
James recently received his B.A. from New York University, majoring in
Art History and Creative Writing. Since graduating James has worked as

Jeffrey Garofalo
Jeffrey holds a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from New York
University. He is currently a student at Parsons the New School for

Heran Getachew
Heran is an undergraduate student at Columbia University in her last year of studying Engineering Management Systems/ Operations Research. She is originally from Ethiopia and is fluent in the national language (Amharic).

Casey Gheen
Casey graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Economics in 2000. During her undergraduate years, she worked part time for the state government in Wisconsin and completed an internship with a Washington, D.C.-based think tank devoted to NATO-related policy issues. For the past seven years, she has been working in the field of public finance for several large investment banks, and in her last job as vice-president for municipal projects at Goldman Sachs, she provided financial advisory and underwriting services to various state and local governmental as well as not-for-profit clients. Her accomplishments include completed financings in the areas of infrastructure and economic developments, affordable housing, healthcare and education. Casey has a working knowledge of French and is currently learning Spanish.

Sarah Gogel
Sarah Gogel, originally from France, moved to Nicaragua in 2000 to be the program coordinator to empower at-risk adolescent girls within the local CBO, called Asociacion de Desarrollo de Chaguitillo (ADCH). In 2001, she worked with Mother Teresa Charity Center and Deva International Society for Child Care, respectively with patients affected by TB and leprosy, in Varanasi, India. This was the beginning of Sarah's long-term passion and commitment to contribute to community development and increase the quality of life of individuals at a global level. She formalized this through her higher education in the USA: BA in Sociology from Harvard College, Masters in Social Work from Yeshiva University. Sarita, by which she is often referred, has in-depth experience working with diverse at-risk populations, specifically with trauma survivors, youth, elderly and migrants. She has worked in the field of human rights advocacy in international and local agencies, from corporations like L'Oreal Recherche in France to non-profits like Mesila in Israel and the International Institute of New Jersey in the USA. So far, Sarita only speaks 5 languages.Currently, Sarita is the clinician/outreach coordinator at the PARTNERS program of St. John's University, serving traumatized families. In 2007, she won the Diversity and Ageing award from AARP for her thesis on social isolation among the elderly in France. Sarita is also studying to take the United Nations National Competitive Exam in Political Affairs in 2008 and represents an NGO at the UN.

John Gruen
John is a recent graduate of Brown University with a B.A. in Religious
Studies. John is also an
expert on numerous multimedia technologies, and has spent several years
teaching and utilizing such technologies professionally. He is fluent
in Spanish and is currently studying German.

Marina Kaneti
Marina currently works for the United Nations Development Program as the Growing Sustainable Business Investment Broker for Albania. She first joined the GSB in 2006 as a Summer Associate in UNDP Mongolia where she initiated development of a micro-insurance product for micro-loan borrowers. Previous to that Marina Kaneti worked at the Regional Bureau for Africa at the UNDP HQ in New York where she was assisting the partnership projects with the Global Fund on HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria. She was also a consultant at the National Council for Social Services in Singapore, the IOFA/Fair Fund in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Hamilton-Madison Settlement House in New York. Marina Kaneti worked in finance and equities and on Wall Street. Her finance background provides for effective development of strategic solutions and efficient analysis and engagement in complex and challenging scenarios. Marina obtained both her B.A. in East Asian Studies and her M.S in Social Enterprise Administration from Columbia University. She is fluent in English, Chinese, Russian, and Bulgarian, and is currently studying French and Spanish.

Rafael Khatchaturian
Rafael is a BA/MA candidate at the New School for Social Research,

Silvia Korchumova
Silvia was born and raised in Bulgaria, and recently graduated from
Cornell University with a B.A. in Government, with concentrations in
Law &
Society and Latin American Studies. Silvia is fluent in Bulgarian and Spanish and knows
elementary Swedish.

Amy Lister
Amy brings to Globalhood over 10 years of professional consulting
experience, primarily in the health care, education and non-profit
sectors. Most recently, Amy has been leading a team of consultants that
provides comprehensive organization development and organization
effectiveness consulting services to 25,000 regional health care
employees, including interprofessional health care provider teams,
managers, directors & physicians leaders. In this role, Amy has
developed and delivered enterprise-wide strategies, toolkits, workshops
and programs, in the areas of change, team development, and leadership.
Prior, Amy was co-Director of Queen's Project for International
Development (QPID), a non-profit organization that provides
multi-disciplinary services to community-initiated development
projects. Amy was responsible for managing an executive team, the
general membership body, external partnerships and a team of cooperants
who led projects on 4 continents. Amy obtained her Bachelor of Arts
(Honours) in Religious Studies and her Bachelor of Education from
Queen's University. She also completed an internship with the United
Nations Commission for Sustainable Development in New York City. In
addition, she holds a Masters of Arts degree, specializing in Holistic
Education and Adult Learning, from the University of Toronto (OISE).
Amy speaks English and French and has worked, travelled and/or
volunteered in Australia, Central & South America, Asia and
Africa.

Sarah Loh
Sarah recently graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in
Philosophy and is currently working as a legal assistant at Zukerman
Gore & Brandeis. Her previous volunteer experience includes:
preparing and leading programs for STRIVE, a mentoring/tutoring group
for sickle cell patients; organizing and launching fundraising and
awareness events for the Columbia chapter of Operation Smile; and
training and supervising the social-media networking team for the
global human rights campaign, Redlight Children, which focuses on
ending the sexual exploitation of children worldwide. Sarah has a
working knowledge of Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish and French.

Jennifer Nicholas
Jennifer was born and raised in Dominica in the Caribbean, where she learnt to speak Creole. She is a recent graduate of Baruch College and holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting. Presently, Jennifer is pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Finance, and has previously worked as a volunteer on The Hunger Project.

Joseph Rubagumya
While finishing his master's degree in International and public Affairs at Columbia University, Joseph is also assisting the Millennium Cities Initiatives at the Earth Institute in carrying out Needs Assessments to increase foreign direct investment in seven cities in Africa. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree in political science at the National University of Rwanda, he worked as a consultant to the United Nations Development Program. Joseph has also worked as a consultant with IntraHealth International, and with the World Bank funded Rwanda Demobilization and Re-integration Commission. He also worked with OntheFrontier, a UN Monitoring firm that was working under the supervision of the presidents' office in Kigali. His main work was to assist in research that covered the entire country. Rwandese by Nationality, Joseph was born in Uganda. In his extensive travels within several countries around Africa, he has learned seven local languages, and is fluent in French. Joseph brings 6 years of field experience in the rural development sector and 2 years in human subject research.

Amy Schoeman
Amy has previously worked with American Express, the United Nations
Development Program, PlaNet Finance in India, the New York City
Department of Parks and Recreation and the New York City Department of
City Planning. She holds two masters degrees in International Affairs
and Urban Planning from Columbia University and a BA in liberal arts
from Sarah Lawrence College. Amy has a working knowledge of French and

Julie Wang
Julie brings to Globalhood over 10 years of strategy and development experience, primarily within the financial services industry. Currently, Julie serves as a Vice President at Citigroup, focusing on financial protection products. Previous to that, Julie held strategic development roles at MasterCard and American Express where she advised and implemented on such issues as new product introductions, long term growth, and sales and marketing effectiveness. In addition, Julie has been affiliated with various community organizations including the Taproot Foundation as well as the Urban Business Assistance Corporation where she served as the Vice President of Education. Julie received her M.B.A. from the NYU Stern School of business and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Melissa Wong
Melissa brings to Globalhood seven years of experience in advocacy and relationship management in the public sector. She has held several positions in the Singapore Foreign Service, with her last appointment being Assistant Director in the Europe department. Then, she conducted in-depth assessments of the political and economic situation in Europe and formulated policy responses to developments in the region, as well as oversaw the organization of, and solicitation of sponsorship for, the Singapore Food and Cultural Festival in Turkey. From 2003 to 2006, Melissa also held a senior political analyst position of First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations in New York where she advocated for Singapore's interests on a range of issues including sustainable development, international trade, humanitarian assistance, counter-terrorism and the law of the sea. She also developed and executed strategies to communicate key messages to persuade and influence Singapore's target audience on a range of issues. Melissa earned her BA from the National University of Singapore. She is fluent in Mandarin as well as several Chinese dialects.
