They Come in the Name of Helping
A Globalhood Film
Filmed in August of 2007 in Sierra Leone, this film attempts to highlight the need for respect and humility on the part of the West by exploring the issues of poverty and development from the perspective of the poor themselves. By listening directly to those people we have sought to help, the film demonstrates the need for type of ‘beneficiary-driven’ and multicultural development that Globalhood is pioneering. Through the voices of young, educated Sierra Leoneans, this film offers valuable insights into how we can participate in the development process without reinforcing the dehumanizing legacy of dependency and colonialism.
